New Jax Chamber President focuses on port deepening

The new president and CEO of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce is holding a morning forum on Tuesday to talk transportation and logistics, and he says he's looking for input from community leaders.

“The first 90 days I’m going to go out into the community and listen to community leaders and business leaders, and make sure we’re offering them the product that they want,” Dan Davis tells WOKV.

Davis is also a Florida state representative and chairs the Florida House Transportation committee.  He says he plans to talk about moving more product and services more efficiently.

He says one example is the deepening of the port creating 65,000 jobs across the region, and Northeast Florida should keep focusing on projects like this to maintain its title of America's Logistics capital

“It’ll generate $19 billion in annual economic impact, so it’s something we definitely have to look into.”

Davis says he knows how important transportation is to the Northeast Florida economy.

“You know we can send consumers product from the Jacksonville area and reach over 50 million people in an eight hour drive.”

WOKV will be attending the forum Tuesday morning at the University Club and will update.
