A Jacksonville firefighter tells us he hopes everyone enjoys their New Year's celebration and stays safe.
"If it goes up, it's gotta come down."
Randy Wyse is the President of the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters. He says along with fireworks related injuries, firing off your guns this holiday can also present problems.
"I remember a couple of years ago you had someone down on the South Bank Riverwalk that actually got struck by a bullet from someone shooting up in the air."
He says New Year's Eve's are usually a mixture of celebrations, drinks, fireworks and sometimes guns. He tells us it's one of the busiest times of years for firefighters.
"Anything that blows up or explodes is actually illegal in Duval County."
Wyse says somehow every year illegal fireworks make their way into the streets of Jacksonville. He warns about the dangers of setting them off. He says you shouldn't have them but if you do he warns to keep everyone back at a safe distance so they don't get injured.
