Scott Cordero from the National Weather Service in Jacksonville confirms two tornados touched down in Nassau County.
"We determined it was an EF0. It means it was 70-90 miles per hour. It mainly affected weak structures."
Cordero says one tornado hit Naval Station Mayport. He says most likely it started as a waterspout and then came onshore. Cordero says a second tornado struck Fernandina Beach.
"It was stronger. We rated it as EF1 scale. We estimated winds of 100 miles per hour."
He says it caused some trees to fall and also affected the roofs of some structures. Cordero says tornados typically form on the outer bands of storms.
"Typically with any tropical storm or hurricane, the best threat is along the immediate coast. That's due to the friction from the water. That's not unusual."
