PHOTOS: CCSO looks to fight rise in retail theft

Clay County is dealing with a gradual rise in retail theft.

“Shoplifting is just rampant,” says Mary Justino with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier this month, a man and woman stole about $775 worth of clothing from The Children’s Store in the Orange Park Mall. Earlier this year, three women stole more than $600 worth of items from the same location.

Justino says these cases are unique because of the quantity of items stolen, although it’s not yet clear if they were connected. She says it is part of a growing problem, however, with more than 400 arrests for retail theft/shoplifting in the county so far this year.

"Right around 1/7th to 1/8th of our total arrests are for retail theft," she says.

If you have any information on the pictured suspects, relating to the Children’s Place shoplifting, you’re asked to call CCSO Det. Adam Graff at 904-264-6512.
