CLAY COUNTY, Fla. - The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has new leads on a string of auto burglaries of unlocked cars in the Eagle Harbor area.
Detective Layne tells WOKV the suspect or suspects are targeting vehicles parked in large parking lots around 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
“At youth sports venues, football fields, tennis courts, areas where people typically take their children to play and have a good time,” Layne says.
So far, CCSO says multiple cars have been targeted at Eagle Harbor, Thunderbolt Park, and the soccer fields on Lakeshore.
The suspect is described as most likely a Hispanic male in his mid 20s to mid 30s. Police are looking for a late 90s to early 2000s silver Ford Taurus.
Detective Layne says the suspect or suspects are targeting unlocked cars, so he urges everyone to lock their cars and stay on the lookout at any events.
“The chances are that our suspect may be there with a child, participating, and just happens to be in the area. Crime of opportunity, so to speak,” Layne says.
