Players championship provides boost for local economy

The Players championship is gearing up and the interim president of Jax Chamber says besides providing a good time for golf fans, it brings money and recognition to the first coast.
“It gives us global recognition for Northeast Florida for a week or more.”
Jerry Mallot says in addition to name recognition; the tournament attracts thousands of tourists to the city and showcases Jacksonville as a great place to live. He says this could lead to companies opening up their business in Northeast Florida.
“When companies are talking about where to expand or relocate they might remember how wonderful this area was.”
Mallot says the airport, hotels and restaurants are all able to cash in.
“People coming into the area, of course, really ratchet up the use of the airport. It’s one of the big generators of economic activity at this time.”
An added benefit Mallot says is the tournament puts approximately 5 million dollars back into our local economy.
