Rain drenches wildfire conditions

While the rain we’ve been seeing in the past few days has dampened your commute, it’s also dampened the risk of fire in Northeast Florida.

“Things have been improving vastly- it looks great at this point,” says Florida Forest Service Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Analeasa Winter.

Winter says we are much wetter now than this time of year normally, which has been great for not just driving down the fire risk, but the fires themselves.

“This is putting out the active wildfires that we have here in Northeast Florida,” she says.

But behind the rain is coming some potential for strong wind, which could easily create risky fire conditions once again.  Winter says the debris around your home could dry out and become kindling once again if we do not get continued rain.
