Reported Attempted Child Abduction at St. Johns County Pier Splash Park

Jacksonville, FL. — The St. Augustine Beach Police Department is looking into the report of an attempted child abduction that happened on July 12, 2017, and they are urging any visitors to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior.

A mother claimed it happened at the St. Johns County Pier Splash Park, but there was no direct report of the incident to police. St. Augustine Beach Police say it came to their attention from social media posts.

The mother said she was with her two-year-old daughter at the Splash Park when she was approached by a man who started talking to her. Moments later, the mother heard her child scream and saw her child sitting down and the man trying to pull her up by the arm.

The mother yelled at the man who then took off in an unknown direction leaving the park.

He is described to be a white man around 50 years old, salt and pepper hair, and approximately 6 ft. tall.

The man was possibly wearing jean shorts but the mother said she was not positive about the suspect’s attire.

The St. Augustine Beach Police say there have been no further known attempted abductions reported to law enforcement and they are pursuing all leads. If you notice anything suspicious or have any information about this incident, you’re asked to contact them at 904.471.3600 or e-mail them at Contact@sabpd.org
