A local organization, Save our Sons, is coming together to put an end to the violence plaguing the city with hopes of preventing African American youth from heading down the wrong path.

Save our Sons will announce a week of activities in conjunction with other organizations like JSO, the state attorneys office and the city of Jacksonville. It's all to curb crime in the community, particulary involving black youth.

"The ultimate goal is to give these kids an awareness and hopefully stop some of this foolish decision making and trying to curtail this spike in crime" said Kenneth Adkins, the community relations director for Save our Sons.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is teaming up with the organization during the week of June 8th - June 15th. Adkins tells us the officers will allow the pastors to do ride alongs with them during their normal shifts.

"Pastors are going to be out riding with police to see what they see, to see if they see young people out, to see the types of crimes that they are committing."

Adkins says the week of activities will bring together the Superintendent, the State Attorney's office, the Mayor, the Sheriff, and clergy all with one goal: to save our sons.
