Sen. Bean 'open' to Medicaid expansion, yet 'skeptical'

Florida legislative sessions begin tomorrow, and your State Senator Aaron Bean tells us the expansion of Medicaid and the creation of an Obamacare exchange are two of the biggest questions right now.

Senator Bean, who represents Duval and Nassau counties, would rather Florida take up the federal health exchange system than the state one.

“I still search for why on earth would Florida want to do [the state exchange] at all, and never found one,” Bean tells WOKV.

He says the scariest part is that they're still making the rules up about Obamacare.

“Why would we wanna sign a contract when half the contract hasn’t yet been filled in?” he asks.  “They can write in anything they want.  So it’s just best that we take a path and wait and see first.”

As for expanding Medicaid, Bean says those against it feel it's too big an expansion of government, while others say it's money from the feds for the first three years, so it’s a good deal.

“I tell you what. There are still so many questions that remain,” Bean says.

To put it simply, he’s “open” to the expansion of Medicaid, but “skeptical.”
