Jacksonville, FL - A local lawmaker's name has been thrown into the ring as a possible replacement for former Lt. Governor Jennifer Carrol.
E-mails between Governor Rick Scott and his former Chief of Staff, Steve MacNamara, show MacNamara is pushing State Senator John Thrasher be selected for the vacant lieutenant governor position. Thrasher says he'll stick with being a Senator.
"It's something that at this stage of my life is the right mix for me and my family, so I'm happy where I am," says Thrasher. He also noted the former chief is a good friend of his.
Thrasher knows Scott is looking for someone who can follow-through and get stuff done. He didn't suggest any candidates himself, but Thrasher said he'd be happy to help the Governor if asked.
In the full e-mail, MacNamara went on to say to Scott:
Hope you pick Thrasher. Given all he has done, I hope you at least put him on the short list, have Adam tell him he's not it so he can
gracefully withdraw saying he needs to keep his commitment to his constituents and fill out his term. He understands you need to make
the right political choice with this appointment but it would buy you tons of good will to include him in the list being considered. This is
a great opportunity to make a couple of key people feel important by saying they are being contemplated as a replacement. As Rahm Emanuel would say "Never let a good crisis go to waste". BTW...I'm not interested but thanks!
Scott says don't expect a new Lt. Governor to be named until May, once the legislative session is over.
