Several vehicles involved in I-95 crash in St. Johns

From our partner Action News:  Multiple crashes have shut down the outside lanes of I-95 Southbound just north of International Golf Parkway. The center travel lane is the only open lane at the moment.

The Florida Highway Patrol says at 5 a.m. Thursday a car rear-ended a semi carrying hazardous chemicals, leaving the car disabled in the middle of the road.   The driver of the car exited the vehicle and was standing on the shoulder of the Interstate when a second car swerved to avoid the accident and hit the woman.

Troopers say another approaching semi then slammed into the car, which was still in the middle of the interstate.

The woman who was hit by the car was flown by helicopter to Orange Park Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after 6 a.m. another accident happened at the same location. Another car rear-ended another semi. No injuries were reported in relation to that accident.

FHP also reports numerous other minor accidents with no injuries as a result of onlookers and congestion following the two original accidents.

The Florida Highway Patrol is working to clear the scene.

Action News has a crew on the scene monitoring the situation and will bring you the latest information on the air and on the web at ActionNewsJax.com. We are working to learn more about the extent of the injuries of everyone involved.
