Significant repair work completed on Mathews bridge

Crews working on the Mathews Bridge have installed a stub beam on the West end.

Mike Goldman with the Florida Department of Transportation tells WOKV the final positioning of the bridge is complete and final measurement of the long chord section has been made. The installation of the remaining chord section will continue over the next few days.

Goldman says repairs are on track for a possible partial re-opening just in time for the Florida Georgia game. However, officials have not confirmed when the bridge would officially be re-opened. Crews are now more than half-way through a 40 day contract and have made significant repairs.

A news conference is expected to be held Friday to discuss the Hart Bridge traffic changes that were implemented Sunday during the Jags game.
