Soccer mom accused of embezzling tens of thousands

A soccer mom is arrested for allegedly bilking thousands of dollars from the Amelia Island Youth Soccer League.

37-year-old Ronee Malama is accused of embezzling $60,000 from the league in which she was registrar.

Our partner Action News reports Malama has been arrested twice this year for allegedly stealing money from two separate entities.

According to Fernandina Beach Police, Malama's first arrest was earlier this year for theft from the Nassau County Health Department. She's accused of stealing money from her co-workers purses.

Now she faces new charges for embezzlement from the Amelia Island Youth Soccer League.

According to police, a series of financial irregularities popped up.  Action News is told the registration money paid for by check for more than 500 kids disappeared.

Police went through more than 1,000 pages of bank and business records.  Investigators determined Malama allegedly took $60,000 from the soccer program over two years.

The vice president of the soccer board board said they don't want to comment publicly because they don't know all the details of the investigation.

Police tell Action News another $23,000 in cash is missing -- but that is harder to trace back.
