Spike in card skimmers causing concern

Jacksonville, FL — Police are concerned about a spike in those credit card skimmers found at gas stations across the state of Florida.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says 613 skimmers have been found statewide at pumps so far this year.  They say in all of last year there were only 219 skimmers located.

Law enforcement officers say criminals usually like to go to the pumps furthest away from the building to place the skimmers in hopes they wont get caught.

Police say it's best NEVER to use a debit card to pay at the pump.  If you must use one to pay for gas, pay inside.  Paying at the pump with a credit card is a better option.
