Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. - Students gathered at Ponte Vedra High School this weekend to mourn the loss of their principal.
Craig Speziale died Saturday after a long battle with cancer.
Student lovingly placed flowers and candles on the 52-year-old’s parking spot.
“He poured more love into the school and truly did make it what it is today,” said one student.
Speziale was Ponte Vedra High School’s first and only principal since the school opened its doors in 2007.
"This is a difficult time for us. He was a beloved member of our family. This hits us right in the heart. He was an inspiration and great leader to all," said St. John's County School Community Relations Director Christina Langston.
Grief counselors will be at the school Monday to help students cope with Speziale’s passing.
He leaves behind a wife and children. His family will hold a visitation from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Palm Valley Funeral Home located at 4750 Palm Valley Road.
A church service will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church at 1718 State Road 13 North.
The family is accepting donations to the Craig Speziale Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Ponte Vedra High School in lieu of flowers.
