The registered sex offender charged with abducting and killing a local 8-year-old girl will not be kept with the Duval County Jail’s general population.
Our news partner Action News is reporting Donald Smith is being kept in protective custody. He is classified as a ‘high profile’ inmate, which means he also wears a red jumpsuit so officers can easily find him separate from the other inmates when in court or jail.
Smith has pled not guilty to kidnapping and murder relating to the death of 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle. He was denied bond at a recent court date and will next appear in court in July.
