“Talking the Tropics With Mike”: Tropical storm threatens Pacific side of Mexico

Strong convection has flared over the SW Gulf of Mexico in assoication with a tropical wave (that might be the remnants of "Bret" from last week).  No development is expected as the wave will be inland over Mexico soon.

Water vapor imagery:

Surface analysis of the Gulf:

Caribbean:

Caribbean/SW Atlantic satellite shows a weak tropical wave moving into the Caribbean with no development expected as shear remains strong.

A strong tropical wave has moved over the Eastern Atlantic.  Forecast models don't do much with this wave but occasionally do show future waves with some potential in the first week or two of July.  There continues to be an unseasonably early strong "wave train" parading off the coast of Africa:

Wind shear analysis:

Meanwhile... tropical storm "Dora" has formed on the Pacific side of Mexico.  While there will be some heavy rain & rough seas/surf on the SW coast of Mexico through Mon., a direct hit is not expected as "Dora" eventually turns more west.
