A 16-year-old has been arrested for allegedly shooting a 12-year-old in Northwest Jacksonville.
The victim was driven to the hospital by his mother Thursday afternoon. He was shot in the leg, it’s considered a non-life threatening injury.
JSO says 16-year-old Josie Lorenzo Lewis has now been arrested for aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm in public.
Police say the victim and suspect knew each other, but are not offering any further details on the motive behind the shooting. A police report obtained by WOKV shows Lewis agreed to speak with detectives, but the portion detailing what he says has been redacted.
According to JSO, Lewis has a prior conviction for strong armed robbery in Jacksonville.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office confirms to WOKV that Lewis has an active warrant for burglary and grand theft over $20,000 in connection to a September 2013 home burglary. We’re told Lewis will be fully processed and tried in Jacksonville before facing the Clay County charges.
