THE PLAYERS posts record charity year

Another record year for THE PLAYERS Championship means a big win for the First Coast.

The 2013 Championship tournament raised $7.1 million for more than 300 local charities.  THE PLAYERS Championship Executive Director Matt Rapp tells us the reward comes as the result of a renewed push for raise the money, and a renewed excitement for the tournament by Northeast Florida

“It’s the whole community pulling together, which makes this event so much more successful and makes it an even better showcase for the city,” Rapp says.

This comes after a record setting year by the tournament last year, and caps off about $60 million that has been raised since the event moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1977.

Rapp says their big focus now remains on a pledge to bring in $50 million for youth charities over ten years, which they’re now more than on pace to achieve. The Championship says more than $17 million has been raised toward that goal.
