10am Update: All northbound lanes on I-95 in St. Johns County have re-opened.
Traffic came to a halt on I-95 northbound in St. Johns County early on Thursday morning, with all northbound lanes closed just after 6am.
WOKV has learned that a woman who was stranded on the highway just north of the International Golf Parkway interchange had called her father-in-law for help. He arrived in the opposite lanes and was trying to walk across I-95 when he was struck and killed. .
"Due to the situation he was left in the roadway and was then struck by several vehicles after that", said Sgt. Dylan Bryan with Florida Highway Patrol.
The man has been identified as 82-year-old Charles Sherrill. His daughter-in-law is 61-year-old Patricial Harris.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the drivers involved in the tragedy were cooperating with their investigation.
