Trial delayed for accused Jax teen terrorist

The Jacksonville teen accused of supporting terrorists overseas will wait a little longer to see trial.

During a recent status hearing, a judge granted a continuance for 19-year-old Shelton Bell.  Bell’s trial was originally set to begin next week.  He’s charged with “Conspiracy to Provide Material Support to Terrorists” and “Attempt to Provide Material Support to Terrorists” and could face up to 30 years in federal prison if convicted on both charges.

The federal indictment obtained by WOKV alleges Bell recruited and trained locally with the goal of executing a violent “jihad” overseas.  Investigators believe he also traveled to Yemen with the intention to join a branch of al Qaeda.

The trial is now set to begin in early January.
