On Friday, the TSA announced it will allow more U.S. citizens to apply for a preapproved program that will allow you to move quicker through airport security lines.
Previously, to be able to opt-in to the program you had to go through an airline's frequent flyer program or be enrolled in one of CBP’s Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs. However, the program is now being expanded to include everyone. Beginning later this year, U.S. citizens will be able to apply online. They will have to submit to a background check, pay an $85 enrollment fee and also provide their fingerprints. Once the paperwork is approved, they will be eligible for expedited screening.
The TSA Pre program is set to begin at Washington Dulles International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport. However, they have plans to expand to additional sites nationwide. We reached out to a TSA spokesperson who says the program is not yet available in Jacksonville and could not confirm when it would begin here. Debbie Jones, spokeswoman for JIA Aviation Authority says they will work with TSA when the program comes to Jacksonville. She tells WOKV news long security lines generally are not a problem at JIA.
