JACKSONVILLE, Fl. - Westside residents stumbled upon two different bodies within the span of two days.
A woman and her child discovered a body along Park City Drive Friday.
A 12-year old came across the skeletal remains of another body Sunday while he was walking through the woods.
The first body belonged to 29-year-old Shaquita Smith, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Rick Sherfy says he saw her body floating in a ditch near his house. He said at first he wasn’t sure if he was looking at a mannequin or a real body.
“I got close enough to make sure it was a body,” Sherfy said.
Police suspect Smith was a victim of foul play. She appeared to have been gagged and had visible injuries, according to Sherfy.
“It’s tough seeing something like that,” Sherfy said.
Police are not able to name the second body because it started to decompose, but they believed the body is male.
It was found near a known transient camp.
JSO is waiting for assistance from a medical examiner to further identify the body.
