UPS investing in $196 million expansion in Jacksonville

UPS is making a big investment in Jacksonville.

The company has announced a $196 million expansion at its Jacksonville ground package hub in Jacksonville, which will include adding more than 260,000 square feet to the existing building and adding advanced technology and operations automation.

The capacity on site would increase to more than 80,000 packages processed per hour, which is about 20,000 more than current levels, according to a UPS Spokeswoman. The facility will be retrofitted with the latest sorting and processing technology, according to UPS.

The project is expected to be completed by fall 2019.

The company confirms this expansion is the proposal outlined in "Project Mountain", an economic incentives package approved this week by the Jacksonville City Council. The deal committed $4.3 million in incentives, in the form of a REV grant, in exchange for the expansion, which also includes ten jobs.
