WARNING: Sex terms poster at school shocks, upsets parents

WARNING: The poster described below has strong sexual references.

The poster asks “How Do People Express Their Feelings,” and the suggestions it gives have parents more than a little mad.

“Why would you put it in front of 13-year-old children?” Mark Ellis asked.

Just a few of the phrases on the poster include grinding, touching each other’s genitals, oral sex, and intercourse.

Ellis has a 13-year-old daughter at Hocker Grove Middle School in Shawnee Mission Kansas.

She took a picture of the poster and showed her dad. He was sure it was a prank but when he called the school, he got a second and even bigger shock.

The poster is no joke

Leigh Ann Neal is with the district, she told Fox 4 in Kansas City "the poster that you reference is actually part of our middle school health and science materials, and so it is a part of our district approved curriculum."

Neal continued.

“However the item is meant to be part of a lesson, and so certainly as a standalone poster without the context of a teacher-led discussion, I could see that there might be some cause for concern.”

For Ellis, concern is not a big enough word.

“It upsets me. And again, it goes back to who approved this? You know this had to pass through enough hands that someone should have said, ‘Wait a minute, these are 13-year-old kids, we do not need to be this in-depth with this sexual education type of program.”

Ellis finished by saying “this has nothing to do with abstinence or sexual reproduction.”

Ellis says if the curriculum isn’t changed he’ll remove his daughter from those classes.
