Westside man charged after dog found burnt, smelling of gasoline

A Westside man is in jail for allegedly setting his dog on fire.

Police responded to the home on 110th Street- just off Timuquana Road and Ortega Farms Boulevard- for an animal investigation on Sunday.  The mother of 21-year-old Devron Quarterman says she was inside the home cooking while Quarterman was outside playing with the dog.

At one point, she told investigators she heard the dog crying loudly so she came outside to check on it. She found the dog chained to a tree, rolling in the dirt, with its fur falling off. Police say the fur smelled like gas, the dog was burnt and there was a gas container in the front yard.  The suspect also had a lighter in his pocket, according to JSO.

Quarterman has been charged with felony Animal Cruelty.
