Among the handful of Representatives who voted against giving aid to Ukraine is one from Northeast Florida.
Republican Congressman Ted Yoho tells WOKV he feels the US needs to handle its own financial situation first.
“We’re at a time where we can’t pay our own bills without borrowing money,” he says.
The House voted on a billion dollar loan guarantee through the IMF according to Yoho, and that money has actually already been appropriated. Yoho disagrees, however, with characterizing the money as not from taxpayers, just because it’s already earmarked.
“If that money is just sitting there, use it to pay our bills,” he says.
In addition to wanting to get our own financial house in order, Yoho also has concerns about giving money to a country that’s working to get on its feet.
“We’re giving money to a government that doesn’t exist yet,” he says.
Yoho does, however, favor sanctions on Russia.
