A woman was treated for a possible shark bite at Jacksonville Beach.
According to a Jacksonville Beach Police Department report, the incident took place around 11 a.m. Tuesday on the beach two-and-a-half miles south of the pier.
The 44-year-old woman was transported to Baptist Beaches Hospital with minor injuries. She told police she was standing in waist-deep water when she felt something bite her foot and she shook it around.
The woman was treated on the beach by lifeguards and fire rescue crews, before being taken to the hospital.
“I look over and I see blood and a towel around her foot,” said Claire Kenaston, witness.
Witness Claire Kenaston said the victim as not panicking.
"She was calm, very calm," said Kenaston. "She was a good sport about it."
"There’s not really a shark season. It’s the ocean. Sharks live there," said Robert Emahiser, Captain of Ocean Rescue. "We generally don't have a problem with shark attacks or shark bites."
Action News has been tracking a number of sharks off northeast Florida and southeast Georgia.
According to OCEARCH's website, there is a female shark, Mary Lee, off Brunswick's coast.
