Jacksonville, FL - A 19-year-old is dead following a crash that has tied up traffic in the Mandarin area.
Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Dylan Bryan tells WOKV a trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the left shoulder of I-295 at Old St. Augustine Road at around 11:30 AM. An SUV with three people inside was driving northbound in the left lane approaching the stop when Bryan says the driver made an “improper” lane change in to the center lane.
“This tractor-trailer was struck in the left side by that Sport Utility Vehicle and then caused that SUV to overturn,” Bryan says.
FHP says the 19-year-old front passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead on the scene. The 19-year-old driver sustained serious injuries and a 29-year-old rear passenger sustained critical injuries.
I-295 NB at OSA was closed for several hours while FHP investigated the crash. Bryan says victim identification and any determination of fault has not been confirmed at this time.
