Pittsburgh Public Schools officials said a 4th grader was found smoking marijuana in a bathroom stall Thursday.
According to a letter sent home to parents at Pittsburgh Roosevelt, the student had to be transported to a local hospital.
“Thanks to the quick response of several students, administration was alerted that a student was smoking marijuana in one of our restrooms,” the letter stated.
The letter went on to say that the student told administrators that she brought the marijuana cigarette and a lighter from home.
Officials said no other students were involved or used the product. School staff immediately confiscated the items and reported the incident to school police and Childline, the letter said.
“The staff and faculty at Pittsburgh Roosevelt are committed to providing your child with a safe and secure learning environment. The use and or possession of drugs by any student will not be tolerated. With the cooperation of students and families we can ensure our school remains, safe, orderly and drug free.”
