When a Florida police officer asked Stacey Anne Vuono why she called 911, the 38-year-old had an unexpected response.
“Because you think I’m cute?” Vuono said, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The remark earned Vuono a trip to the Palm Beach County Jail where she was booked Tuesday for allegedly misusing the 911 system. Vuono was released Wednesday on her own recognizance.
Delray Beach Police were called Tuesday around 2:15 p.m. to Vuono’s home regarding a domestic disturbance. Vuono told police that her husband hit her in the head, but she did not display any signs of injury, the affidavit said.
Police noticed that Vuono had “slow and slurred speech, glassy eyes, smelled of an unknown alcoholic beverage” and could not describe how the incident with her husband took place.
After police spoke to the husband, they returned to talk with Vuono, but she refused to open the front door or further cooperate. Police left the home.
Less than a half-hour after the first 911 call, Vuono contacted the emergency number again.
“What crime would you like to report?” police asked Vuono following their arrival.
Vuono responded with the same story she gave after the first call.
“What was so urgent that you needed to call 911?” police said.
“I didn’t call 911,” answered Vuono, the affidavit states.
“Why did I come back to your house?” the police officer responded.
“Because you think I’m cute?” Vuono said.
The officer answered by placing Vuono in handcuffs and taking her to jail.
