Rachel Benke, a seventh-grader with epilepsy, relies on her faithful service dog, Taxi, to alert her and others around her before the onset of a seizure. While Taxi, a mixed breed, flunked out of seeing eye dog training, reportedly due to an issue with cats, Taxi found his true calling as an epilepsy service dog. Therefore, the Benke family found it only fitting that Taxi have his picture included in the school yearbook.
Yahoo! reports that Taxi has been Rachel’s constant companion since she was 9 years old, and while the administration at her elementary school was not thrilled with the distracting presence of the dog, her middle school has been more welcoming.
The Benke family is thrilled of the school’s decision to include Rachel’s service dog in the yearbook, saying it has made for a “joyous” end to the school year.
