The executive vice-president of Duvals Teachers United says she is sure teachers will appreciate tax free debit cards but says teachers in Duval County and across the state need more.
"Teachers spend more than a thousand dollars, anywhere from $800 to $2,000 out of their pocket."
The tax-free debit card will give teachers approximately $250 to spend on classroom supplies for the school year.
"$250 per teacher for supplies, okay drop in the bucket."
George says she believes teachers will appreciate it but she questions the governor's motives.
"I would say to Governor Scott, what's your motivation behind this?"
She says she understand revenue streams for education are strained in these economic times. However, George says she would like the governor to look once more at the budget and allocate more money for education.
