A man who shot 3 police officers serving him an injunction killed himself in his Lake City home Friday evening.
The 3 police officers from the Lake City Police Department, who sustained non life-threatening injuries, were shot by Jesse Ralph Custer while serving a domestic violence injunction at a home at Hilton Avenue and Mathews Street. The officers, identified as Sgt. David Greear and Jason Byrd, and Officer Mitchell Cline, were transported to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville.
Police officers were setting up a perimeter around the home to serve the injunction, when Custer exited the home and open fired on officers. He then retreated back into the house and began a standoff that lasted several hours. This all happened around 1:40 pm Friday afternoon.
SWAT and tactical teams and police departments from several counties surrounded the house, and hundreds of people who live and work in the neighborhood were blocked off from entering their homes. Several businesses in the area were also locked down.
Around 8:25 pm, SWAT teams entered Custer's home and found him dead inside.
