We're now seeing the benefits of an economic development mission to Brazil by Governor Rick Scott and Mayor Alvin Brown.

The two campaigned for Jacksonville to be the homebase for aircraft manufacturer Embraer to build light attack aircrafts for the Air Force. Well, it paid off.

Jacksonville will see 50 new jobs coming from an Air Force contract awarded today. Sierra Nevada Corporation and its partner Embraer have won the $950 million contract for 20 Super Tucano light air support aircraft. The final assembly of the aircraft will take place in Jacksonville and delivery starts summer 2014.

"A great team came together to make a solid case for building this plane in Northeast Florida, resulting in a 'win - win' for the First Coast economy and our national defense," said Congressman Ander Crenshaw. "More importantly, this contract underscores the deep confidence by our military that Jacksonville continues to be a military aviation center of excellence."

"This is great economic news for Jacksonville," said Mayor Brown. "The award reaffirms that Jacksonville is the most military and business friendly city in the United States."

Mayor Brown credited the broad coalition of public and private sector partners which joined forces to make this achievement possible. "This announcement is yet another example of what we can accomplish when we work together," said Mayor Brown. "Today's success was a real team effort."

The single-engine turboprop aircraft will be assembled and tested at Jacksonville International Airport.
