8-year-old shot in New Year's celebration

By WOKV News Team

Jacksonville, FL —

An 8-year-old is recovering after his New Year’s Eve ends with a gunshot to his foot.

Jacksonville Police say the shot was apparently fired in to the air to celebrate the New Year and it landed in the boy’s foot while he was waiting to watch the fireworks in Downtown Jacksonville last night.

He was on the Southbank just east of the Main Street Bridge when he told his father something hurt his foot, and that’s when the father realized his son had been shot.  He pulled the bullet out and took him to a nearby police officer, from there he was taken to Shands.

The boy is expected to recover.  At this time there is no suspect in custody.
