JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

When police responded to 734 Ralph Street early Tuesday morning they found 23-year-old Telia Toaltoan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She later died at a local hospital, leaving behind children. Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Prince Sanders, was arrested a short time later when he went into Shands Hospital to receive treatment of some kind.

Today, JSO is saying they are looking into why a police report wasn't written for another call out to that very same residence the night before the shooting.

"As we've been looking into this, I have some concerns about the way the initial call was handled," said Undersheriff Dwain Senterfitt during a Wednesday news conference at JSO. "I don't want to come across like we're sure they did something completely wrong but I want you to at least know that it's something that we're looking at, because you'll probably start hearing about that

Senterfitt says reports are required for any call to which officers respond, and that it's strange that one wasn't filed in this case. He added that Sanders was not in the home when police responded the first time.

"I have to say, I don't know that it would have made any difference in this case."

Fraternal Order of Police president Nelson Cuba says there are plenty of situations that do no require a police report to be filed, so he suspects the first thing JSO will do is try to figure out whether that first call was a situation that warranted a police report.

Sanders is a convicted felon in the state of Florida and is likely looking at murder now too. He made his first appearance in court Wednesday morning. JSO says there has been some history of violence between Sanders and Toaltoan.
