The Allied Veterans Center is now helping homeless military veterans under a new name - the 5 STAR Veterans Center.
The change was made to distance the shelter from the Allied Veterans of the World, which bought the property and paid most of its bills before it fell under federal investigation for allegedly operating an illegal gambling operation.
The center off Atlantic Boulevard in Arlington also has a new board of directors.
Col. (Ret.) Len Loving says the "5" represents the five branches of the U.S. military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
The word "STAR" stands for "service members transition and reintegration."
Loving says they're working very diligently to keep the center open; they need more money to stay open beyond mid-June.
