Anita Perry visits Jacksonville

By Matt Augustine

Jacksonville, FL —

They say an elephant never forgets....

...but America saw one potentially presidential pachyderm forget on stage at the GOP debate Wednesday night at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.  Rick Perry stumbled and mumbled his way through a question about taxes as he tried to remember the name of one of the government agencies he says he'll do away with if elected president

On Thursday Rick Perry's wife Anita was in Jacksonville speaking at a luncheon for the Republican Women's Club of Duval Federated at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown, and she had no plans of ignoring her husband's gaffe at Wednesday's debate.

"You know he may have forgotten a word [Wednesday] night...thank you for everybody being so kind and saying something.  I went straight for the key lime pie the minute I sat down.  I needed a little comfort food."

She spent most of the luncheon campaigning for her husband, talking about his childhood, how they met, and what he planned to do if elected.

"Even after forgetting one word, Rick Perry had the fire in his belly and the fight to continue fighting for America so that you and I can have America again...I will have to say he believes if Americans are left to live in freedom, that Americans will create more prosperity than government."

She did acknowledge that her husband is not always so forgetful.

"Everybody forgets something every now and then, but he remembered our anniversary last week."

She said Rick was up early, ready to go on as many morning TV talk shows as possible.  He also made an appearance on Thursday night's edition of The Late Show with David Letterman doing the Top 10 countdown.
