Right now a battle is brewing over whether an Atlantic Beach pub should be allowed to fly the Irish flag outside of their business. The owners of Culhane’s Irish pub were issued a citation for violating a city ordinance. The flag is considered a banner which is illegal for commercial businesses in Atlantic Beach.
“It’s kind of a bit of a shock and we’re just sad. But you know we’re living in, I think…the best country in the world” said Aine Culhane.
Culhane owns the business with three of her sisters. Right now, the sister's plan on appealing the ordinance. Atlantic Beach officials say it will take time to modify the ordinance, but Culhane hopes to fly the Irish flag on St. Patrick's day.
