Jacksonville police make two arrests in a January murder case after they got a tip from a friend of the suspects.

The tipster apparently told police that 19-year-old Markeith Anglin had been bragging to friends about committing the first homicide of 2013.  That led police to arrest Anglin and 18-year-old Marquis Bates in connection to the murder of Dante Steel.  Anglin invoked his right to remain silent but Bates apparently told police that he was there the night of the murder but would not admit to having anything to do with it.

Lt. Rob Schoonover with JSO said Anglin and Bates were meeting the 18-year-old Steel on January 4 on Birkenhead Road near Cassat and Blanding to sell him a gun and had planned to rob him.  The police report says while the three met, Anglin pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Steel.  Anglin is charged with the murder and Bates faces a charge of armed robbery.

Both Bates and Anglin have criminal pasts.   Anglin has been arrested for resisting arrest and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  Bates has been collared for trespassing on school grounds.
