Cain moves to top tier of GOP hopefuls

  • comment(4)

Herman Cain shocked the GOP establishment by trouncing the field in the Florida straw poll, and a new survey shows that voters are starting to take notice.

In the latest Fox News survey -- the first conducted entirely after the straw poll was held -- shows Cain now a close third behind Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.

Romney has reclaimed the top spot with 23-percent support.

Perry's support has slipped to 19-percent, two points ahead of Cain's 17-percent.

It appears that much of Cain's new-found support came from former Perry supporters.

Since Fox's last poll at the end of August, Cain's support has increased 11-percent, while Perry's has fallen 10-percent.

One hopeful who has seen support all but evaporate is Michele Bachmann.

Her support has eroded since her win in the Iowa straw poll, tying for last in the Fox News poll with three-percent support.

The poll of 925 registered voters was coducted Sept. 25-27 and has a margin of error of plus or minus five-percent.
