Jacksonville, FL —

A 60-year-old is charged in the death of a Westside man.

Jacksonville police originally charged Thomas Wayne Campton with felony battery causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or disfigurement.  Police say he was in an argument over money with 65-year-old Jerry Wayne Campbell. Lieutenant Rob Schoonover says Campton admits to hitting Campbell during the argument.

Campbell was found by his girlfriend unresponsive on the side of his home on the 7800 block of Gulf Road South on February 11th. He died from his injuries the next day.

Today, the State Attorney’s Office has upgraded the charge facing Campton to manslaughter.
