JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
No one was hurt when a soda bottle filled with unknown chemicals spilled on the second floor of Terry Parker High School.
Jacksonville Fire Rescue spokesman Tom Francis tells WOKV News the hazardous response team and fire department was called to the school around 9 a.m. Thursday after the school was placed on lockdown.
It appears to be a prank, though that has not been confirmed. Crews cleaned up the mess and ventilated the area. Outside, students just showing up to school got quite a surprise when they saw it surrounded by flashing lights and emergency responders.
The school told parents it was alright for them to come pick up their children if they chose, and for dads like Brian Baker, it was a no-brainer.
"I was about to go bananas...I didn't want to take any chances so I just made sure to go ahead and get them out of there today and make sure they were safe."
Other parents like Carla Salley say with incidents like what happened in Newtown or even earlier this week in Jacksonville when an 18-year-old was caught outside Englewood High School with a loaded gun, it pays to be cautious.
"I am really stressing. It's like, you never know what's going to happen. You never know if they would call you and say your child is dead."
Shannon Hartley with JSO told WOKV just after noon that the lockdown had been lifted and classes were resuming as normal. Police continue to investigate and say they don't currently have anyone in custody.
