City leaders announce plans following movie theater melee

By Paris Carerra

On Friday morning city leaders and community activists banded together at the Northside movie theater where a melee started on Christmas night.

City leaders announced a plan to start a website designed to reach out to teenagers.

They are also pushing the theme of Respect - Restraint - and Responsibility. State Senator Audrey Gibson was among one of the speakers. She says parents should be accountable for their children.

"If we want to stop the school to prison pipeline, then our students and our parents have to understand it's important to know where your children are. "

The melee at the Northside movie theater involved hundreds of young people and resulted in arrests. City leaders are also working on increasing awareness of crime and respect in the community.
