An international uproar has started over why an Atlantic Beach pub is not allowed to fly the Irish flag outside of their business.
"They just came with a warning that we had to take the Irish flag down within 24 hours because it was in violation...so it's kind of a bit of shock and we're just sad but, you know, we're living in the best country in the world...besides Ireland. We love Ireland too," says Aine Culhane of Culhane's Irish Pub.
They also fly the American flag, but the four sisters who run Culhane's were recently issued a citation because flying non-U.S. flags is against the city's ordinance.
Culhane was also told the same thing happened to a Greek diner in Mayport. Atlantic Beach officials say it will take time to modify the ordinance, but Culhane's hopes to fly the Irish flag on St. Patrick's Day.
