Jacksonville, FL —

A new ordinance would require Jacksonville city workers to live in the city.  The legislation being presented by council member Reggie Brown will get its first reading Tuesday night in front of the city council.

The ordinance would only target new hires and would be effective September 30, 2011.

As of right now there are more than 9,000 city workers, and about 1,500 of them don’t live in Jacksonville.  The law would affect everyone if passed including members of boards and commissions and even JSO officers.
