Clay County, FL —
A big success.
That’s what Clay County law enforcement is calling this weekend’s drug take-back event, which netted 202 pounds of medication.
The Sheriff’s Office says the medication was all different types and classifications. They have been turned over to the Evidence Unit for destruction.
Event coordinators tell us the turn-out was “excellent” and “well-received”, and they are planning another for late this year.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages you to dispose of unused or outdated medication at events like this in an effort to keep small children in your home away from the hazard of ingesting the drugs. The drugs can also be valuable for street sale, so it leaves your home vulnerable to theft or burglary. Additionally, flushing the medicine down plumbing could let the medicine get in to the community water supply.
