Jacksonville, FL —

Jack Haggerty of Fleming Island is defending a display in front of his home that has drawn condemnation of his neighbors.

He's flying the American flag upside down because he says he does not like the direction the country is headed.

Haggerty is a Korean war veteran. "I'm more patriotic than anyone you'll ever come across," Haggerty told Channel 4.

Haggerty says some neighbors have berated him for his statement.

"I'm flying the flag upside down because I feel the country's in distress. Worst distress since its inception in 1776. That's an international sign of distress, all counties use it," said Haggerty.

Haggerty says he plans to fly the flag upside down until the end of the year.
